Let us get to know you!

We are happy to accept unsolicited manuscripts for consideration. When sending your proposal, please include the synopsis, planned title, subject area and the scope of your paper (dissertation, post-doctoral independent research [Habilitation], monograph etc.). Simply fill out the form below.

What our authors say:

It is a great privilege for me to have published my first monograph with your publishing house. I sincerely thank you and your team for the dedication and availability you have demostrated throughout the publishing process.

Maria Rita Consolaro
Pre-Publication

Excellence starts from the very beginning: with the manuscript itself. All manuscripts are reviewed and assessed with a focus on quality and ‘fit’. After the initial assessment, our editors examine the manuscript from the point of view of the market, title, format and length. We then collaborate with the prospective author to create a book proposal, deciding whether the work will appear as a monograph or part of an edited collection. Finally, the manuscript and proposal are sent to an independent peer review panel who determine the proposal approval.

Publishing Contract

Upon accepting your manuscript, we make a contractual offer to you. If you are a Ph.D. student who has received an offer from us to publish your dissertation, you will most likely be able to use the contract to apply for a Ph.D. title from your faculty.

Publication Grants

Quite often, grants are necessary to offset publication costs, whether the work is to be published in print, digitally or in other media forms. The scope of the grant is dependent on the book format. Through funding, authors can ensure the quality of their publication as well as allow us to employ marketing measures that enable wide dissemination and prominence within the research community.

Funding and Research Grants

All authors are eligible to receive dividends from VG WORT, a non-profit organisation that manages remuneration for the use of copyright-protected works. VG WORT determines the total amount of dividends at the start of the calendar year; the amount that an individual author receives depends on the scope of his or her work. On average, an author receives about 2000 € for a paper that was published the year before. We also track the number of user clicks on our online databases, Beck-Online and Nomos eLibrary, and pay authors royalties accordingly.

Numerous foundations and institutes assume a certain amount of publishing costs. These include institutes supported by political parties, labour unions and religious communities. We encourage authors to visit the website of the advocacy group, Bundesverband deutscher Stiftungen, at: www.stiftungen.org. We also encourage you to apply for a research grant from the German Research Foundation (DFG), which funds the publication of doctoral theses, dissertations, post-doctoral independent research (Habilitation) and similar. Candidates from non-EU countries are eligible to apply for grants from the German Academic Scholarship Foundation (Studienstiftung des deutschen Volkes), while academics interested in the Humanities stand in good stead with the following foundations:

• Andrea von Braun Stiftung
• Deutscher Akademikerinnenbund e. V.
• FAZIT Stiftung
• Geschwister Boehringer Ingelheim Stiftung

Lastly, we advise authors to keep an eye out for local and regionally-based foundations as well as institutes that are interested in funding a specific research area. Post-publication, authors may apply for academic prizes and awards that often include a substantial sum of prize money.

International Distribution

English has become the lingua franca of the research community, with an ever-increasing number of critical research and global discussions published in English. To serve the research community better, Nomos Publishing has forged connections with well-connected distributors and partner houses, such as the UK-based Hart Publishing, who also carry a selection of our titles for English-speaking readers. In addition, all titles published at the Nomos eLibrary are available to read in English.

Print and Digital Editions

All published authors receive a number of print copies of their book to share with fellow colleagues, family and friends. Nomos Publishing also takes care of copies that students are legally required to submit to their universities.

All digital editions of new publications go live on the Nomos eLibrary concurrent to the sale of print copies. Nomos eLibrary provides worldwide access to libraries, universities and research institutes. Titles published on Nomos eLibrary are also easily found by search engines, such as Google and Bing.
