About Us
Our story begins in 1886 with the opening of our bookshop in Hildesheim. At the turn of the 20th century, the first books were printed; these were primarily textbooks, books on agriculture and local history and geography.
Today, we are proud to have established ourselves as a leading academic publisher with major emphases in the Arts and Humanities. We carry titles in over 30 disciplines and work with more than 500 local and international contributors. On a monthly basis, we release about twenty new titles and reprint more than 15,000 volumes, which are available both in print and digital. At Georg Olms Verlag, growth is more than just a motto.

In 1953, Senator h.c., Dr. h.c. mult. W. Georg Olms (born in 1927) takes over as director of the bookshop, Georg Olms, and transforms it into a second-hand bookshop specialising in academic literature. In 1958, the bookshop becomes an international household name as publisher of academic reprints.
In 1983, W. Georg Olms purchases the rights to Weidmann Verlagsbuchhandlung.
