This reprint makes available again an important collection of sources on the history of the Abbadides by the Dutch orientalist
Reinhard Dozy, a pioneering scholar in the history of Arabs in
medieval Spain. Ruling in the city and principality of Seville in
the 11th century, this Moorish dynasty were important patrons of
the arts and sciences and even contributed a poet of repute. It is
therefore not surprising that Dozy's study does not restrict
itself to historiographical sources, but also includes literary
texts. The thorough investigation and research based on all Arabic
manuscripts then to be found in European libraries make the
collection an indispensable tool for the study of Arabic-Iberian
history.
